Josh Raufman is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with over a decade of clinical experience across outpatient psychiatry, correctional mental health, and academic medicine. He specializes in the treatment of complex mood disorders, with a particular clinical and research interest in mixed depression, emotional dysregulation, and treatment-resistant presentations.
Josh draws from psychopharmacology, patient-centered psychoeducation, and collaborative care models to create individualized treatment plans that reflect both the science and the nuance of psychiatric care. He works with adults across the diagnostic spectrum but has developed a strong reputation for helping patients who haven’t felt well on standard antidepressants.
In addition to his clinical practice, Josh serves as a senior clinical instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he mentors medical students in psychiatric settings, including correctional facilities. His teaching emphasizes curiosity, diagnostic precision, and compassionate care.
Josh believes psychiatric treatment is most effective when it’s collaborative, transparent, and attuned to the patient’s lived experience. His approach emphasizes clarity in diagnosis, practical treatment strategies, and honest conversation about what is — and isn’t — working.
